Finally we get an offer for the house! Even better is that the buyer wants to close earlier than our projected move date! Norway here we come right? Not quite…. after several days of waiting the buyers looks like may be pulling out after we accepted the offer. Ugh!
There is still a small pinch of hope that everything will work out but as of now we are probably putting the house back on the market after tomorrow.
We are anticipating being moved to Kongsberg, Norway (Norge) by May ‘09. We then hope to be in Oslo by the end of summer 2009. Its a big move, and all this has me trying to mentally prepare for the inevidable culture shock. The language is really the biggest barrier that I feel. I have plenty of books, cd’s on the Norsk language and I even have my own teacher (my husband, Tor-Inge), However I still am worried that my 15 month old daughter will be fluent in it before I can even speak it.
I don’t think cramming the language will work for me. I think for me it is going to take complete submersion in the Norsk language. We shall see.
I am very interested in how other foriegn people are transitioning into Norwegian lifestyle. This video by Daan Spits is very interesting as he gives short interviews with other foreigners in Norway.
A funny parody on the Norwegian lifestyle. I particularly like the idea of Norwegian kids being born with skis on. I remember when I tried sking for the first time in Kongsberg on the huge mountain kiddie slope and little babies sking past my limp lifeless body.
I love this video snippet about Norway. It makes me feel very good about the choice I have made to live in Norway and the future my daughter will have there.
My online alias is Digi-La-Dee,
I am married to a Norwegian and we have a daughter together who is 14 months old as I write this, she is half Norsk half American.
We’re moving from Texas to Norway shortly. I’ve been there many times and love it there, I look forward to living there!
